Welcome amiibo Update comes to Animal Crossing: New Leaf

The latest Nintendo Direct covers the new update, Welcome amiibo, coming to Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Nintendo has added loads of new features to freshen up the 3-year old game and bring players amiibo functionality. But amiibo functionality isn’t all that was added. They have gone out of their way and even added features that people without amiibo will enjoy. Here are all the new things now available on your Animal Crossing: New Leaf game!

The Update Is Live Now

That’s right, Nintendo has already updated the game so you can get to work on your towns immediately. The update already allows you to enjoy all the features they have added to the game including amiibo functionality. While the new set of 50 amiibo are not available quite yet, you can still take advantage of over 400 amiibo already released for the Animal Crossing series as well as specific amiibo from other titles such as Zelda and Splatoon.

A Magic Lamp Brings amiibo Functionality

Wisp is finally making a return in Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome amiibo and bringing along the amiibo functionality. When you use a special item, the magic lamp, you can call on Wisp and bring amiibo into your game. Using any of the 400+ Animal Crossing amiibo Cards, you can call on villagers to visit and possibly join you in your town by moving in. The Welcome amiibo Card set will give you 50 new (returning) villagers that will appear in your town in special RVs or trailers.

When you select your amiibo and scan them in, you can invite them to come and play. Villagers you invite will appear in Harvey’s Campground. In Harvey’s Campground, there is room for a couple RVs. The RVs in the back are reserved for special villagers and the RVs in the front are reserved for campers that you have invited using amiibo. You can enter their RV and get a feel of their style and even order some of the special furniture they have for yourself. These items are exclusive to the RVs and you cannot obtain them in town.

Invite Villagers To Live In Your Town

When you scan in your Animal Crossing amiibo Cards, you are able to invite them into your town so they can become residents of your village. If you wanted more control over what villagers live in your town, this is your opportunity to invite specific villagers with their cards. If you wanted a town full of wolves, bunnies, cats, or dogs, you can achieve that simply by scanning the appropriate villagers. Your amiibo figures also come in handy with their own special features.

Since amiibo figures are special characters who cannot be invited into your town, they come with special items that you weren’t able to obtain before. They even have special items that unlock two minigames that didn’t exist in the game before, Desert Island Escape and Animal Crossing Puzzle League. The Desert Island Escape was introduced in Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and is making an official appearance in Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome amiibo. The Animal Crossing Puzzle League game is similar to other Puzzle League games such as Pokémon Puzzle League and has you solving fast paced puzzles.

You can also use your amiibo to take selfies with your animal friends. Bring villagers and townsfolk into your camera and take photos with them in your real world environment. You get a lot of control over the villagers and are able to put them in different poses and give them different emotions to make them picture perfect.

Updates that Don’t Need amiibo

The Desert Island Escape game is available to players who don’t have amiibo to use with their console. The update allows you to buy a Wii U as a new in game item. The Wii U then works like the NES consoles in Animal Crossing: Population Growing and allows you to play the Desert Island Escape game on your 3DS. Like the NES consoles in the original Animal Crossing, you now have the ability to bring another game into your game so you can game while you game.

Animal Crossing Puzzle League can also be obtained without amiibo. The New 3DS item works just like the Wii U and allows you to play the Puzzle League game. You will be challenged by other villagers that are trying to take power over the town. The new mini games are an exciting way to change how you play Animal Crossing and give a nice nod to the original titles of the early 2000s.

Town Pass Card, Town Initiatives, New Currency

Your town pass now has a special function in your Animal Crossing game. You can view town initiatives and earn a new currency known as MEOW coupons or Mutual Exchange of Wealth coupons. By doing every day activities in Animal Crossing like shopping, weeding, fishing or picking fruit, you can earn this new in game currency. MEOW coupons are used to shop at Harvey’s Campground. This will be your way to get all the new items that were never in Animal Crossing: New Leaf before.

Secret Store Room

Are you out of room in your closets and home to hoard loads of furniture? Me too and it’s a huge bummer. The Secret Store Room gives you an invisible closet that you can access from anywhere. It gives you a huge amount of new storage space and makes it easier to access your items from anywhere, even when visiting friends. This is an excellent feature that I’m sure tons of Animal Crossing fans have been waiting for. With the ability to easily look through furniture and items and get out what you need when you need it, you’re going to be decorating faster than ever before.

Touch Screen Decorating Controls

For fans of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, you know how easy and convenient it was to decorate your happy homes. Once you add the secret storeroom to your game and go through a happy home designer seminar in New Leaf, you will be able to decorate your home using the convenient touch screen mechanic. Also, with save data from Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, you’ll be able to order giant furniture from the events in Happy Home Designer and add those to your homes.

Turn Off Chat On The Island

For those of you who love visiting the island and checking out all those cool items they only sell at this tropical paradise, you can now turn off the moochers on the island. You no longer have to be bombarded by messages on the island and completely ignore the other islanders that can be troublesome or annoying.

Restart Your Town With Money

When you want to restart your town, you don’t have to start from the bottom. Instead, you can start from the top! Tom Nook now offers you money for your items and all the progress you made in Animal Crossing: New Leaf so you can get yourself a nice little nest egg at the beginning of the game. With that money, you can then quickly make progress in your new town and upgrade your home to a size you want immediately. You can even buy all that hard to get furniture right from the get go. But don’t go spending those bells all in one place!

Splatoon and Zelda Are In Animal Crossing

Using your Splatoon amiibo or Zelda amiibo, you can now get characters from those titles to visit you in your campground. The Callie and Marie amiibo bring in some cosplaying squirrels while the Zelda amiibo bring in many different characters from the Zelda Universe such as Wolf Link, Ganon, Medli or even Epona. They also come with their own set of special items from their respective games that you can add to your collection.
