A History of Systems
I’ve owned the Playstation 4 pretty much since day of release. I only purchased it after weeks of contemplating whether or not to switch from XBOX or not. Prior my list of gaming systems were the XBOX 360, XBOX, and Nintendo 64. The final decision to choose the PS4 came when i decided that the Halo series wasn’t enough to keep me on Microsoft’s system especially with the my final enjoyment of Halo 4. So I went to the Playstation 4.
For those interested here is the full list of games I’ve owned and played for a good amount of time on the PS4.
- Battlefield 4 ( Nov 15, 2013)
- Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition (Nov 15, 2013)
- The Last of Us Remastered (July 29, 2014)
- Destiny (Sep 9, 2014)
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Nov 4, 2014)
- Grand Theft Auto V (Nov 18. 2014)
- Watch Dogs (Nov 18, 2014)
- Fallout 4 (Nov 10, 2015)
- Street Fighter V (Feb 16, 2016)
- Overwatch (May 24, 2016)
- Destiny 2 (Sep 6, 2017)
While my list of PS4 games may not seem to be long it’s for good reason- money. When it came down to buying games I always look at replayability. That seems to be a very hot keyword right now- replayability. For one, a lot of the games featured online multiplayer. This would influence whether or not I purchased a game because my friends would also get the game. More reason to play the game over and over again.
But I noticed something within the last couple of months. While Destiny 2 was very disappointing to my friends and I there was a need for a reason to use my PS4. Fortnite became that bandaid. And while my friends also jumped on to the free Battle Royal mode but I mostly played alone.
Made the Switch
This is where the Switch will become a hero for me. Although my Switch purchases are limited to Stardew Valley and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild they are games that I can play alone. Something that I discovered I enjoy doing. There are games that I want to play that include multiplayer like Splatoon 2. This is a game that I will play with friends. But for the time being among my friends there is only one person that I’d play with in my core group of friends. So to make the most out of Switch and the time that a game comes out for PS4 that I want to play (i.e. Last of Us II) I’m looking at game that I may enjoy.
Major games that I want to play are Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2, and of course finish Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The difficult part is that with a tight budget you become selective about the games you purchase. This will allow me to become fully engulfed in the games I do purchase.
The Final Point
I just want to become more open to the type of games that I purchase. Whether they are more oriented toward the Nintendo Indie games or their major releases I hope to grow as a gamer. As I hope that 2018 be a year of great change, while I’m on the move I’ll continue to bring my Switch along and enjoy the games that my friends turn me on to or that I may find intriguing.
What do you hope to see in 2018 for you as a gamer? More of the same or more variety?
Let me know!
